A Legacy That Strengthens Lebanon County
The red feather has deep roots here. In the 1930s, community chests, the early version of today’s United Ways, used it as a symbol of service. For decades, Lebanon County’s campaign was known simply as the “red feather campaign,” and donors proudly wore a red feather pin to show their commitment to their neighbors.
To honor that tradition and the leaders who came before us, United Way of Lebanon County created the Red Feather Society. It celebrates the lasting impact of planned and estate giving– gifts that preserve our history of service while building a stronger future for everyone who calls this community home.
What Is the Red Feather Society?
The Red Feather Society is a distinguished group of community-minded individuals who have made United Way of Lebanon County a charitable priority. It recognizes those who are committed today and those who have chosen to extend that commitment for generations to come through estate gifts.
Membership reflects a shared belief: that lasting change happens when people invest not just in the present, but in the future of their community.
The Power of estate Giving in Lebanon County
Estate giving lets you align your estate plans with the causes you care about most. When you include United Way in those plans, you’re making a long-term investment in Lebanon County’s health, education, and financial stability.
Your generosity ripples forward– helping children reach their potential, supporting families as they gain stability, and breaking down barriers that have lasted for generations.
These gifts can also offer financial benefits, depending on your situation. Many donors work with their trusted financial, tax, or legal advisors to explore options that may:
- Reduce current income taxes through charitable contributions of appreciated or retirement assets
- Give you more control over how your tax dollars are used
- Provide income for yourself while generating a tax deduction
- Support a nonprofit for a set period, then return assets to you, your heirs, or another charity
There are many ways to create a legacy that reflects your values. Your advisors can help identify the options that best support your goals.
